Everybody hits the odd golf shot where, firstly, the ball goes where you want it to go, and secondly, everything just “clicks into place” and feels perfect. This is generally when the swing path matches exactly to your physical parameters and where club and body work together.
This is the blessing and curse of golf. It either makes you come back for more, or if you can’t replicate it, makes you throw your bag into the water!
Optimal physical conditioning for golf helps and allows us to find that magical swing path more consistently, and leads to reliability. The more you’re in tune with your body, and the more you move toward your optimal physical state, the fewer variables there will be to affect your swing.
I am by no means a golf coach, but one of the most fascinating aspects of working with top, professional players was when they would ask how they could correct a technical aspect in their swing. For example a coach may want a player to improve their right hip rotation into their follow-through. After hitting 100 balls on the range, and battling to achieve the desired result, they may have enough insight to realize it is a physical issue and not a technique flaw.
This is where a physical assessment of this nature comes into play. If we can identify the limiting factor, and through treatment and specific exercise / stretching prescription correct the issue, their next visit to the range produces a much better result.
Optimal conditioning and correct technique = consistent, reliable swing path!

Over a 5 year period of working regularly with some of the best golfers in the world (and others trying to become the best), patterns and similarities started to emerge. Players seemed to be battling with the same types of issues, which could be traced back to similar root causes. It became clear that there were 8 key components necessary for the consistency that we have discussed. A deficiency or problem with each one of these components led to a predictable outcome in the swing. And combinations of issues leading to even more complex challenges to overcome. Making that one occasional perfect swing even more elusive. You won’t find these 8 components in the latest Golf Digest, because they have been thoughtfully put together and developed and tested In a real world situation, with real golfers.
The in-clinic assessment looks at these 8 components, in relation to your age, previous injuries, playing experience. We will prioritize the findings and develop a realistic plan that works for you, taking into account your goals, time availability, and access to resources. Each plan will look very different, as it is individualized to your needs.
This assessment would be great for any golfer looking to recover from, or avoid injury, to achieve more consistency in their swing, and to hopefully hit the ball a bit further.
Please feel free to book a normal assessment If you’re being hampered by an annoying injury, or just looking to make some small changes to improve your game. We can aassess and treat your issue specifically. No need to do the full assessment.
